1966 Hagstrom HII-B Short Scale Bass Sunburst (Made in Sweden)

Up for sale, here’s a vintage 1966 Hagstrom HII-B short scale bass in Sunburst, made in Sweden, not a reissue. It’s in Very Good condition for its age and remains all original with the exception of one replacement knob. It weighs 6.6 lbs and has a comfortable 30″ short scale, and it carries its original single-coil pickups along with Hagstrom’s signature slide switches, giving access to a few different tonal combinations.

The bass plays fine. The truss rod works as it should, the neck is straight, and the original frets still have plenty of life left in them. The hardware is all original too, including the tuners, the nut, and the wood bridge, though one of the bridge’s height-adjustment screws is missing. It’s a simple, inexpensive part to source and replace.

Cosmetically the bass is Very Good for its age, showing consistent, honest playwear throughout the body. In a few spots you can see Hagstrom’s hot pink polyester primer peeking through, a basecoat the factory used as a sealer beneath the color finish, and it’s most visible in body cavities or through small chips in the original lacquer. That pink undercoat showing through is a good sign of a genuine, untouched original finish.

It comes with what we believe to be its original black Tolex hard case with a blue interior.
